Rennes and Chainette are two sculptural, graphic curtains designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. They share the same base pattern, which was originally designed for a room divider at an exhibition of their work in Rennes, France.

Chainette is embroidered with braids which follow the outline of the stripes of Rennes. The tactile braids give Chainette a discreet three-dimensional and playful character – and its name. Chainette means ‘little chain’ in French.

As conditions change over the course of the day, Rennes and Chainette play with light and shadow, consistently revealing new, subtle nuances. This effect is enhanced when they are draped. Rennes and Chainette also share a handcrafted expression that is accentuated by small irregularities on their surface. Although produced using the most precise production methods, random elements and loose yarns cannot always be avoided and are a result of the curtains’ complex construction.

    Lightfastness relates to the ability of a textile to retain its colour under light. When testing for lightfastness, samples are exposed to artificial daylight for a specified period.

    The evaluation scale ranges from 1 (worst) to 8 (best). An increase of one point corresponds to a doubling of the lightfastness, i.e. the same fading takes twice as long.

Care instructions curtain textiles

Regular cleaning is important in order to keep the curtain textile looking its best and to prolong its life. Dust and dirt wear down the textile and also reduce its fire-retardant properties.

  • Regular care

    If possible, we recommend washing curtains once a year. If used heavily, a more frequent cleaning may be appropriate. All curtain fabrics by Kvadrat and Kinnasand are supplied bearing a maintenance label. We recommend the use of a light duty detergent without optical brighteners for all items in which, according to care instructions, washing is possible. In order to reduce the risk of allergy problems, we recommend to use washing detergents that do not contain optical bleach, perfume or colorants. Please take into account a possible shrinkage between 1 – 3 %. For more detailed information, we recommend contacting a professional dry cleaner and/or laundry. A professional dry cleaner may also assist in working out maintenance schedules which ensure that the fabrics are maintained properly so that a good indoor climate and maximum duration of the curtains are achieved.
